THETA OMEGA HONORED AGAIN, NAMED OUTSTANDING CHAPTER

A Gannon University student organization recently was honored by a national biological honor society.

The honor society, Beta Beta Beta (Tri Beta), has designated Gannon’s Theta Omega as an Outstanding Chapter for the 2005-06 academic year. Theta Omega is Gannon’s Tri Beta chapter and has about 75 student members, said Steven J. Ropski, Ph.D., professor, Gannon biology department, and advisor to Theta Omega.

Theta Omega, which competed with more than 300 other campus chapters nationally, was recognized for its excellence in advancing Tri Beta’s objectives: the support of sound scholarship, the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the promotion of research in biology.

Beta Beta Beta bestows a number of awards on its campus chapters. The Lloyd M. Bertholf Award is the organization’s highest award. Gannon has been selected for the Bertholf Award on four occasions: for the 1975-76, 1995-96, 2001-02, and 2003-04 academic years.

Tri Beta also gives Honorable Mention awards as well as the Outstanding Chapter awards.

Beta Beta Beta is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, who are dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and to extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Since its founding in 1922 at Oklahoma City University, more than 175,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership.
