LITERARY MAGAZINE SELECTED FOR 10TH STRAIGHT FIRST-PLACE AWARD

Gannon University’s literary magazine Totem was chosen for its 10th consecutive first-place award in the American Scholastic Press Association’s annual magazine competition.

In addition, this year’s first-place award also came with a “special merit” designation. “Your magazine shows the efforts of talented and creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, layout designers, staff members and advisor,” the ASPA (College Point, N.Y.), said in a letter to the publication’s staff.

The Totem is produced by Gannon students and includes works of poetry, fiction, short stories, art, photography and graphic design done by both Gannon students and faculty.

Entries to the competition were judged on five areas: content coverage, organization, design, presentation, and creativity. The Totem received perfect scores in content coverage and creativity. Overall, the publication earned 960 out of a possible 1,000 points. Last year’s edition of the Totem scored a 940.

Gannon University students Danielle Petrozelle, a senior occupational therapy major, and Christian Peterson, a senior English major, served as co-editors of the publication.

Berwyn Moore, associate professor of English, served as faculty advisor.

Light refreshments will be served.

  • Mark your calendar for Gannon’s second annual Employee Wellness Fair, to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7 in the Yehl Room. Spouses of employees also can attend. Attendees also will be encouraged to participate in a “lifestyle screening” survey.

  • Nash Library invites you to join its new book club. Library staff would like to start the club after mid-semester break and meet either during lunch (12-1 p.m.) or after work (4:30-5:30 p.m.). The goal is to meet a couple of times a month to discuss book(s) that the group has selected to read. Both works of fiction and non-fiction will be considered. Organizers look forward to establishing an open, enjoyable environment for all participants. For more information/suggestions call ext. 7667.
