  GUEST service

What is the purpose of GUEST?

The Gannon University Escort Service Team (GUEST) is designed to enhance your safety and peace of mind if you must walk after dark. The primary goals of GUEST are to enable you to travel from one location to another with a greater sense of security and to deter sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and assault.

GUEST is intended to be primarily a walking service with mobile escorts available under certain circumstances. The mobile escort may be used for trips that are beyond walking range or for times when walking escorts are unavailable.

The mobile escort is not intended as an alternative to other forms of transportation, and may be denied in the following cases:

  • As a regular means of transportation to full-time employment,
  • When two or more individuals are going to the same destination,
  • If public transportation is available (e.g. EMTA).

  • When are escorts available?

GUEST is designed to be available throughout the academic year beginning at 5:00 p.m. and during summer sessions at 6:00 p.m. The service continues until 1:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with the exception of semester and holiday breaks.

    Who will escort me?

Escorts are carefully screened and selected students employed by the Campus Police and Safety Office. All escorts undergo interpersonal communication and sensitivity training. However, escorts are not bodyguards, and are not required to have defensive training. Escorts may be identified by their GUEST ID badges and T-shirts or jackets. In addition, you will be given the name of your escort when you call. Escorts are stationed at various locations throughout the administrative and residence buildings. All escorts carry two-way radios for quick dispatch and prompt service.

To what locations can i be escorted?

GUEST will provide you with a walking escort to or from any location within a reasonable walking distance of campus. Beyond walking range, mobile escorts may be provided to any destination on campus. Escorts ending off campus, regardless of origin, are available only to the residence of the person being escorted. Mobile service will be provided at the GUEST dispatcher’s discretion, but generally is limited to within a one-mile radius of campus.

How do i arrange for an escort?

Call 871-7260 anytime during the listed hours to arrange for an immediate escort. It is not necessary to call in advance, as escorts are on duty, ready to be dispatched as needed. Escorts are located at Recreation Center, Finegan Hall, Kenilworth Apartments, Harborview Apartments, Palumbo Academic Center, Nash Library, Waldron Center, Wherle Hall, and Zurn Science Center.

Your comments, questions, and suggestions concerning GUEST are welcome. Please feel free to contact us at the Campus Police and Safety Office (814)871-7690, during business hours if we may be of assistance.

REMEMBER: GUEST is a safer alternative to walking alone.
