Graduate Research Assistantships

Gannon University, a Catholic university, seeks applicants for Graduate Research Assistantships to the Computer and Information Science (CIS) Department for the fall 2010 semester; other positions will be available for the spring 2011 semester.  Candidates work 10 hours/week conducting research in close partnership with faculty.  Compensation and benefits include a stipend, tuition for six credits per semester, and various university fees.  Appointments are renewable per semester based on faculty evaluation.

Qualifications: Applicants must be accepted for entrance into the CIS master’s degree program (with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.5 required). IT industry experience is preferred, but is not required. Candidates must be highly motivated and have strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.  Further, qualified individuals must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.

Assistant Resident Director Graduate Assistantship

Gannon, a Catholic university located in Erie, Pennsylvania, seeks a graduate student for the position of Assistant Resident Director of Student Living to begin January 2010.  The successful candidate must be enrolled in a Gannon graduate program and will administer and supervise undergraduate housing facilities, fostering a sense of community through programming, crisis intervention, and mediation; staff supervision; and various administrative duties.  Compensation includes tuition remission (12 credits per academic year), room, and a stipend. 

Qualifications include enrollment in a graduate program at Gannon and a valid driver’s license.  Two years’ residence life leadership experience as a RA is preferred.  Must be able to support and promote the University’s inclusive Mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts and professional education traditions.

Service-Learning Office Assistant (Part-Time, 20 Hrs/Week - Special Project Position)

Gannon University, a Catholic university, invites applications for the position of Service-Learning Office Assistant.  This special project position is a part-time, 20 hour/week position that reports to the Director of Service-Learning in undertaking the following responsibilities:

  1. Assist with logistical support for faculty members engaging in service-learning, with a special emphasis on the First-Year Seminar courses.

  2. Maintain accurate and updated expense records for the Office of Service-Learning.

  3. Coordinate communications with partnering community organizations as needed.

  4. Coordinate on-campus publicity and marketing for service-learning programs and events with regularly updated displays and announcements.

  5. Assist with transportation and some on-site supervision of students for service-learning projects.

  6. Assist with the annual collection and organization of service-learning data and statistics.

  7. Assist with events and projects of the Division of Mission and Ministry, especially in supporting large projects such as Service Fest, GIVE Day, the 30-Hour Fast, or the Day of Caring.

  8. Will perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

 

Requirements include:

  1. A Gannon graduate student is preferred; will consider an upper-level student in a relevant academic field.

  2. Must have experience in an academic environment and in community settings.

  3. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the mission of a Catholic university, in particular Catholic social teaching and the values of service and solidarity.

  4. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, computer, and writing skills.

  5. Must have a valid drivers’ license, a good driving record, and be willing to drive a 12-15 passenger van. 

  6. Must be available for varied hours including occasional evening or weekend hours.

Dahlkemper School of Business Graduate Assistant

Gannon University’s Dahlkemper School of Business (DSBA) invites applications for a Graduate Assistant to begin January 2010.  This appointment is for one year with the option for renewal based upon performance.  Benefits include tuition remission (up to 24 credits per academic year) and a stipend.  Typically, the work schedule is 16 hours per week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. 

Reporting to the Director and Associate Director of the DSBA this position serves as part of the team, including a secretary and work-study students, who administers the School of Business and will perform the duties listed below.  

Marketing Efforts

  • Updating DSBA website

  • Compiling and maintaining Accepted Student Mailing Cycle

  • Organizing Business Day event twice a year

  • Writing the biannual DSBA Newsletter and working with the graphic designer to develop a layout

  • Updating all DSBA developed literature including but not limited to: ABT brochure, internship brochure, major fact sheets

  • Assist in the identification and implementation of new or revised marketing initiatives

MBA Support Activities

  • Continually maintaining and updating files, spreadsheets and paperwork

  • Processing waivers, evaluations, degree certifications and other assignments as requested

  • Working with graduate students to help guide them with course direction and paperwork

  • Working with the MBA Director and secretary to maintain an MBA chain of communication

Faculty Support

  • Covering classes for faculty members and/or administering exams when necessary

  • Supporting faculty research and activities

Program Research

  • Conducting curriculum research for the program

  • Researching information for program changes

  • Analyzing current program data

Office Management

  • Offering support for and filling in for DSBA secretary

  • Performing additional duties in all areas as assigned by DSBA Director and Associate Director
