Director of the Villa Maria School of Nursing

Come and lead the dynamic faculty of Gannon University’s Villa Maria School of Nursing, home to the first baccalaureate nursing program in northwestern Pennsylvania offering a community-based curriculum whose graduates consistently achieve an average of 98 percent first time pass-rate on the NCLEX-RN; home also to an outstanding graduate nursing program whose graduates are serving in advanced practice nursing roles across the United States. The directorship is a 12-month tenure track faculty position with release time for administrative duties. Academic rank and credit towards tenure may be negotiated based on prior experience.

Responsibilities: leadership and visioning for the School of Nursing, including faculty development, scholarship, and research; as well as initiatives related to learning, teaching, curriculum development, service, and outcomes assessment. Responsible for the graduate nursing program, including course scheduling, academic advising, and oversight of recruitment and retention of students. Provides oversight and management for the School of Nursing resources.  Other duties include coordination of efforts to secure external funding; and chairing and/or participating in committees and groups that affect ongoing viability and strategic planning of the School of Nursing, the College of Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences, and the University.

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in Nursing, a Ph.D., Dr.PH, DNS or DNSc, or Ed.D. from an accredited institution of higher education, and eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure as a nurse are required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success in administrative and/or academic leadership; experience in curriculum development and teaching; evidence of scholarly endeavors; vision and ability to engage various constituent groups in strategic initiatives; and strong organizational and communication skills.  Must be able to support and promote the Mission of the University.

Criminal Justice Faculty

The Department of Social Services invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in the undergraduate program for Criminal Justice to begin August 2008. These positions require an earned doctorate in Criminal Justice or Sociology with a concentration in criminal justice, (J.D or L.L.B. alone is not a sufficient terminal degree).  Ideally, candidates will have familiarity with the use of technology in the classroom and have excellent computing skills, the use of course management systems and have development and delivery experience with alternative teaching strategies (online and hybrid courses).  Successful candidates will be expected to teach 12 credits per semester in the full spectrum of core courses and electives in the program; contribute to the development of the Criminal Justice elective curriculum and to the integration of innovative teaching technologies into course material.  Candidates will have a well-designed and focused scholarship agenda; serve on departmental, college, and University committees; and participate in appropriate professional and community activities.  It is highly recommended that the candidate have one year full-time or part-time teaching experience, preferably in a college setting teaching Criminal Justice or courses from a closely aligned discipline.  Additionally, a minimum of two years’ professional experience in federal, state or local criminal justice experience is preferred.  Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach career specific courses in the broad area of police, courts, corrections and/or crime analysis.

Special Education (Tenure Track):  Candidate must have Ph.D. / Ed.D. in Special Education or related field.  The successful applicant will teach courses at the undergraduate, post-degree, and graduate level in special education and educational psychology, advise undergraduate students, and supervise student teachers and students in field based programs and internships.  Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of early intervention, assistive/instructional technology, and collaborative consultation are required. The candidate must also provide evidence of successful teaching/administration in K-12 school settings and the ability to utilize technology in instruction, including online and blended courses. Knowledge of national accreditation processes and experience with program assessment are preferred.

Early Childhood (Tenure Track):  Candidate must have Ph.D./Ed.D. in Early Childhood or related field.  The successful applicant will teach courses at the undergraduate level in Early Childhood, advise undergraduate students, and supervise student teachers and students in field-based programs.  Demonstrated knowledge in areas of child development, preK-4 curriculum development, assessment, and instructional methods are required.  The candidate must also provide evidence of successful teaching/administration in pre K-4 settings.  Knowledge of national accreditation processes and experience with program assessment are preferred.

Physical Therapy Faculty Neuro-rehabilitation/Cardiopulmonary

Faculty responsibilities include teaching in areas of expertise; mentoring student projects; scholarship pursuit; department and University committee activities, and other related service tasks. Clinical practice time is available.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) is a full-time, 33-month program provided in a problem-oriented, system-based competency format, emphasizing evidence based practice, generalist clinical skills and community health. Small class sizes (35-40), a cohesive and stable faculty of eight full-time physical therapists, and a supportive clinical community allow a positive environment for teaching, scholarship and service responsibilities.  Special opportunities exist as part of the cooperative relationship between the DPT program and the Motion Analysis Laboratory (MAL) at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Erie. The MAL uses a VICON 612 10 camera motion capture and force plate system for research in the areas of biomechanics, neurologic and pediatric rehabilitation. Additional opportunities exist for research and program development with the University’s Sport and Exercise Science program and athletic departments.

Qualifications:  Successful candidates must be eligible for Pennsylvania PT licensure.  Preferred applicants will have a post professional doctorate degree (or ABD); those who desire opportunities for ongoing academic and professional development with advanced Master’s degree and/or clinical specialist certification will be considered.  Candidates with an interest in cardiopulmonary, neuro-rehabilitation, clinical education, or community experiential education are encouraged to apply.  Candidates must be able to support the University mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts tradition.

Political Science Faculty

Director, Bioinformatics Program

Bring your enthusiasm to Gannon University where you will collaborate with a dynamic faculty that prepares motivated students intellectually, professionally, and personally for leadership roles in their careers, society and church.  The Computer and Information Science Department (CIS) seeks applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty to serve as Director of the Bioinformatics Program.  The CIS Department’s mission is to provide world-class education in software, computer and information science at the undergraduate and professional master’s levels, and to be a continuing source of technology transfer to local organizations through consulting, projects, integrated internships, and educated employees.  The successful candidate will lead research activities in bioinformatics and collaborate with other faculty in the CIS and Biology departments; and will support and develop funding and research/project opportunities for top-caliber undergraduate students.

Requirements include a doctoral-level degree in Bioinformatics or related computing degree, and possess an educational background in both biology and computing. The successful candidate must be able to teach Bioinformatics and CIS undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as guide CIS master’s projects and theses.  Also required are exceptional communication and entrepreneurial skills to form and lead the research teams with multiple student, faculty, and cross-disciplinary, cross-organizational members, and a strong track record of teaching and research in bioinformatics with broad computational analysis experience in networks or systems.  Interest in networking and system security is desirable. Industry experience in Bioinformatics system development is a significant advantage.  Must be able to support and promote the University’s mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts tradition.
