Cooperative Education: Co-Op has a dual purpose. It provides undergraduate and graduate students with an academically-focused, paid work experience related to their academic study. It provides employers with a cost-effective pool of competent temporary employees. Together, the employer and the University participate in the students' education.
Shadowing: Help students make career decisions through observation of your typical work day and exposure to a professional work environment. Employers are urged to allow students to see them in action as much as possible. Please answer questions about the field and encourage the student if possible. Employers may coordinate a tour of their facility and provide literature if possible to the student. If time allows, employers may close the day with a short one-on-one meeting with the student to answer any final questions.
Mentoring: Advise a student seeking a position in your field on career planning and professional development. Mentors provide information and encouragement to students. They share experiences and invite questions. Mentors are encouraged to provide prompt responses to student inquiries whenever possible. If possible, mentors may provide
shadowing
experiences as well.
On-Site Visits, Presentations, and Tours: The Center for Experiential Education can coordinate a group visit to your facility. These visits will help students in their career decision-making process by exposing them to a professional work environment.
Employers seeking graduating seniors for full-time professional positions are encouraged to visit the Career Development & Employment Services -
Services for Employers Page, to learn about our Job Locator System, job posting, and On Campus Recruiting services.
