What are Co-ops and internships and what type of experience will they provide?
Cooperative Education, commonly known as co-op, and internships are opportunities to gain major-related work experience. Most Co-ops
and internships require an average of 15 hours a week.
What value do I gain?
Co-ops and internships provide an opportunity to:
-
Increase your marketability for full time employment after graduation by gaining experience in your field.
-
Develop the knowledge, key competencies, and work characteristics that employers
are seeking.
-
Establish a network of professional contacts, mentors, and references that can be of benefit to you in the years ahead.
Where are the placement sites located?
The majority of placement sites are located in the area. We also have placement
opportunities outside the tri-state region. The geographic location of placements varies depending on an organization’s needs and
the student’s flexibility in looking beyond the tri-state region. Gannon students have completed
co-ops and internships in
California,
Connecticut, Illinois,
Massachusetts, New York, Texas, and West Virginia. The Center for
Experiential Education staff will assist students if they wish to pursue a placement in their hometown area during the summer.
