INDIVIDUAL
COUNSELING
Students meet with a counselor to
conduct an initial evaluation. Based on the evaluation and nature of the
concern, the counselor will develop a counseling plan with the student.
Professional counselors provide
assessment, evaluation, and short-term counseling to enrolled students.
Students who require extended or specialized counseling may be referred
to other mental health services in the area.
GROUP COUNSELING
Students experiencing common
concerns (anxiety, eating disorder, self esteem, relationship problems)
may benefit from a group counseling appointment. Groups are formed based
on counselor assessment and student interest. Information on community groups is available.
WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS
A variety of self-help,
developmental, and skill building workshops are offered to faculty,
students, and groups and organizations. Topics include self esteem
building, stress management, self/time management techniques, relaxation
methods, eating disorders, alcohol issues, relationship building, and
many more. Contact a counselor to arrange a workshop.
SOMEBODY I KNOW NEEDS HELP
If you are concerned about a
friend, roommate, family member, and you are not sure what to do, then
you can consult with a counselor. A counselor will listen to your
concerns and work with you to develop possible options for you to use.
SELF HELP RESOURCES
Counseling Services maintains a
resource library with information and books on self development and
personal growth issues. Students may sign books out.
Check out the Self-help Virtual Pamphlet collection
developed by the University
of Chicago Student Counseling
and Resource Service. Some services mentioned in the virtual pamphlet are
offered only to students at that university.
