GANNON TO HOST GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL FAIR

            Gannon will host its annual Graduate and Professional School Fair tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 5.

            The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Yehl Ballroom of the Waldron Campus Center.

            Officials from more than 50 schools are expected to attend, including Gannon, Case Western Reserve University (School of Nursing), Duquesne University (Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences), University of Notre Dame (Law School), Nova Southeastern University (Oceanographic Center), Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Penn State University, State University of New York at Buffalo, Syracuse University (College of Human Services and Health Professions), Temple University (School of Podiatric Medicine), University of Pittsburgh, and University of Rochester (Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development).

In total, more than 100 academic disciplines, including business, engineering, health sciences, and social sciences, will be represented.

  • Tuesday, October 5 Graduate and Professional School Fair: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Yehl Room. More than 50 schools, including Gannon, and 100 academic programs will be represented. Call ext. 7680 or 7735 for more information.

  • Wednesday, October 6 Visit by Jesus Nebot: Nebot an award-winning Latino filmmaker, producer, and actor. One of Nebot’s films, “No Turning Back,” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in room 104 of the Zurn Science Center. On Oct. 6, he also will lead a workshop, “Key Principles to Harmonious Living in a Multicultural Society.” The workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Yehl Room.   • Wednesday, October 6 Farewell reception: for Donna Dalton, Ph.D. provost and vice president for academic affairs. Dalton has accepted a position at Lyndon State College (Vt.). The reception will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Old Main Boardroom.

  • Monday, October 11 Liberal Studies Forum: Scheduled from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Zurn 104. Please join this discussion of the latest version of the proposed Liberal Studies learning outcomes. All faculty, staff, and administrators are welcome.

  • Friday, October 22Gannon University’s Erie Chamber Orchestra: The concert will feature as soloist Wildy Zumwalt, saxophone. Performance at 7:30 p.m. at the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel.

Monday, October 4 – Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) Regional Membership Meeting at Westminster College. Tuesday, October 5 – Gannon University Graduate and Professional School Fair. Wednesday, October 6 – Villa Maria Academy senior class visit; farewell reception for Dr. Donna Dalton, provost and vice president for academic affairs. Thursday, October 7 – Activities Programming Board Distinguished Speaker: Robert D. Novak; Erie prospective student reception. Friday-Saturday, October 8-9 – Visitations with Atlanta-area alumni.

 

 

HEARD ON CAMPUS

  • Novak lecture off: Thursday nights lecture featuring Robert Novak of CNN has been cancelled. Novak fell and broke his hip late last week, and consequently will not be able to make his scheduled visit to Gannon. The agency that represents Novak is working with the Gannon Activities Programming Board to bring in an alternate speaker for Thursday night. More information as it becomes available.

  • Special thanks to Gannon colleagues for their assistance with media interviews. David Kozak, Ph.D., professor of political science, did an interview with the Erie Times-News on the importance of the first of three debates between President George W. Bush and Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts. Kim (Jablonski) Spence, assistant director of admissions, did an interview with channel 12-WICU on the Office of Admissions move from the Palumbo Center to Gitnik Manse, located across West Sixth Street from Nash Library.

  • Gannon will host its annual Fall Open House on Sunday, Nov. 7. A full day of events and activities is being planned for prospective students and their families. The day will begin with biology, chemistry, English, engineering and foreign language Scholarship Contests at 10 a.m. An optional mass will be held in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel at 11 a.m. Registration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the lobby of the Waldron Campus Center and will be followed by a welcome presentation from Dr. Garibaldi at 12:30 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m., students and their families will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, administrators, and athletic coaches. They can also tour the campus or take trolley tours of downtown Erie.
