SCHUSTER GALLERY TO SHOWCASE WOMEN ARTISTS

            Gannon University’s Schuster Gallery will next feature the exhibit “Seven Women: Artists and Friends.”

The talents of Darlene Bennett, Diana Boone, Cheryl Brugger, Marian Howard, Anne K. Mazzone, Jan Smith McLaughlin and Matta D. will be showcased. The women are artists as well as friends who have been mainstays in the local art community.

Their artwork is diverse, in subject matter as well as media used, and includes watercolors, pastels, oil paintings, sculpture, pottery, and colored ink drawings.

The exhibit will be on display May 3-28. “Seven Women: Artists and Friends will be the gallerys closing exhibit for the 2003-04 season.

The Gallery is located on the third floor of Nash Library, and is open during regular library hours.

  • Monday, April 26 Chautauqua at Gannon Series: Featuring a lecture by Erie native Steve Scully, senior executive producer/political editor at C-SPAN. 7:30 to 9 p.m. in room 104 of the Zurn Science Center. Scullys topic will be “The Road to the White House 2004.”

  • Tuesday, April 27 Graduate and Adult Open House: 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the third floor of the Palumbo Center. Call ext. 7474 for more info.

  • Thursday, April 29 Springtopia Great Mass: Offered at 11 a.m. at Friendship Green. Rain location will be the Yehl Room. Lunch will follow in the Yehl Room.

  • Friday, May 7 Baccalaureate Mass: 8 p.m. at Saint Peter Cathedral, 230 West Tenth Street. Also: Commencement Dance: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the Hammermill Center. Call the Provosts Office at ext. 7401 for tickets.

  • Friday, May 7, and Sunday, May 9 Erie Opera Theatre: “Tosca,” by Giaccomo Puccini. Both performances will be held at the Central High School Auditorium, 3325 Cherry Street. Friday’s begins at 7:30 p.m., Sunday’s at 2 p.m. Bruce Morton Wright, conductor.

  • Saturday, May 8 Spring Commencement: The U.S. Army Commissioning Ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Yehl Room (reservations required). The main ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at Tullio Arena. The Honorable Sean O’Keefe, administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, will give the keynote address and will be awarded an honorary degree.

  • Friday, May 14 Diversity Workshop: The workshop, “Living and Working Together: Understanding Refugee Cultural Diversity in the Workplace,” will run from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Waldron Center. Fee is $25. Call the Psychology Department at ext. 7538 for more info.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • The second annual basketball shoot-out featuring Dr. Garibaldi will be held on Wednesday, April 28, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Waldron Center. Faculty and staff can sign up to challenge Dr. Garibaldi to a game of Around the World. The cost of the challenge ticket is $2, with proceeds benefiting the Senior Class Gift to the Annual Fund. Dr. Garibaldis record last year was 9-5.
  • Book Sale: Nash Library will hold its annual book sale Tuesday-Wednesday, April 27-28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. All books will be half price the second day. Call ext. 7554 for more information. All proceeds benefit the library.

  • Offer your congratulations to the following members of the faculty on their recent promotions: to professor: Sally LeVan, Ph.D., and Thomas Upton, Ph.D.; and to associate professor: Mark Jubulis, Ph.D., Kristine Legters, and Timothy Laher, Ph.D.

  • The next Mid-Knight Pancake Breakfast will be held from 9:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday, May 2, in the Gannon cafeteria. Volunteers are needed for two shifts: from 9 to 10:30 p.m. and from 10:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. To volunteer, or to donate a fun door prize for the students, call Angela Jones at ext. 5800 or Christine Agnello at ext. 7410. The breakfast is provided, courtesy of the President's Office, to give students a break from studying for finals.

  • The late John “Doc” Waldron, former Dean of Business Administration at Gannon, will be honored posthumously at Cathedral Prep's Hall of Fame Dinner on April 27. The Waldron Campus Center is named after Waldron, who retired from Gannon in 1974. Monsignor James Peterson, a former longtime member of the Gannon faculty, is also one of the honorees.
