GANNON TO HOST SPRING OPEN HOUSE, FOUNDER'S DAY ON APRIL 23

            A full day of events and activities is planned for prospective students and their families during Gannon University’s annual Spring Open House, scheduled for Sunday, April 23.

            The day will begin with an optional mass at 11 a.m. in the university’s Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel, 512 Peach Street.

            Registration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the lobby of the Waldron Campus Center, 124 West Seventh Street.

Throughout the day, representatives from various academic programs and university departments will be on hand to meet with students and families and answer questions. The rest of the schedule is as follows:

  • From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., staff from the university’s office of Student Development will be available in Hammermill Center, Peach Street and South Park Row.
  • From 12:30-1 p.m. in Hammermill Center, Gannon University President Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D., will offer welcoming remarks (“Make the Most of the Day”).
  • From 1-3 p.m., students and their families will be able to meet with faculty members, administrators, and athletic coaches and tour the campus and downtown Erie.
  • From 3-4 p.m., an admissions and financial aid presentation will be offered in room 104 of the Zurn Science Center, 143 West Seventh Street. Also from 3-4 p.m., an Accepted Student Reception will be held in the Yehl Room of the Waldron Center.

          The Founder’s Day Awards Convocation will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple Association, 32 West Eighth Street (across from Palumbo). The convocation is when academic excellence awards are presented to seniors. Awards also will be given leadership and service, among other areas.

  • Joseph J. Strohmeyer, grandfather of Darlene Hess, distribution service clerk; great-grandfather of Gannon students Holly and Bobby Hess; and cousin of Fr. George Strohmeyer, university chaplain.

  • Joseph Morgan, father of Pete Morgan, ITS technician, and grandfather of Gannon student Kaeli Freeborough.

  • Gerald Overholt, father of Steve Overholt, SBDC consulting manager.

 

 

OUR EVENTS

  • Friday, April 21 Gannon University’s Erie Chamber Orchestra: Conducted and directed by Bruce Morton Wright. The concert will feature as soloist Elizabeth Etter (harpsichord) and will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel.

  • Saturday, April 22 Gannon's annual United Way Day of Caring: There will be a rally in Zurn 104 at 8 a.m. Participants will begin their projects between 8:30-9 a.m. and will work until 12 p.m. For more information call 814-882-5837.

  • Saturday, April 22 Bosnian Forum: The event will include a lecture by Senad Agic, imam of the Islamic Cultural Center of Greater Chicago in Northbrook, Ill., as well as Bosnian music and folk dancing. It will begin at 7 p.m. in Zurn room 101. The International Institute of Erie is supporting the event. Tickets are $5 per person at the door.

  • Sunday, April 23Spring Open House: Registration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Students and their families can take tours of the campus and meet with faculty members and representatives from admissions and financial aid.

  • Wednesday-Saturday, April 26-29Gannon University’s Schuster Theatre: Featuring “Fool for Love,” by Sam Shepard. The performances will be directed by Paula Barrett, instructor, communications arts program. All shows are scheduled for 8 p.m.

  • Thursday, April 27Springtopia Mass: Scheduled for 11 a.m. in Friendship Green. May be moved indoors if necessary.

  • Thursday, April 27English Awards Night: Scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Yehl Room. Winners of the annual high school poetry contest will be announced. The featured speaker for the event is Dr. Raphael Campo, an award-winning poet and essayist.

  • Thursday, April 27Dashboard Confessional concert: Scheduled for 8 p.m. at Hammermill Center. For more information call the Activities Programming Board at ext. 7766.

HEARD ON CAMPUS

  • Under the Arch will not be published Monday, April 17 because of the universitys closure for Easter break. Under the Arch will resume normal publication on Monday, April 24.

  • Offer your congratulations to the individuals honored at Friday’s Faculty Awards Convocation. The recipients included: Philip Kelly, D.A., Distinguished Faculty Award; Michael Caulfield, Ph.D., Bishop Trautman “Feed My Sheep” Award; Michael Bucholtz, Ph.D., Undergraduate Research Award; Kelly and Catherine Gillespie, D.H.Sc., Excellence in Undergraduate Advising Awards; Duane Prokop and Constantine K. Kliorys, Ph.D., 25 Years of Service Awards; and Steven Ropski, Ph.D., SGA Excellence in Teaching Award.

  • It’s time for another fun event – the Mid-Knight Pancake Breakfast.
