TWO GANNON
CHEMISTRY STUDENTS NAMED FINALISTS IN COMPETITION
Gannon
University student Semaj Y. Vanzant of Violet, La., recently was
honored.
Vanzant was presented the Minority
Cultures United Student Award at the fourth annual Community Leadership
Awards Dinner.
The dinner was held at
Gannon University and was sponsored by two Erie agencies,
Bayfront Nato, Inc. and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center Youth
Department.
Gannon University President Antoine M.
Garibaldi, Ph.D., gave welcoming remarks at the dinner.
Vanzant is the son of Otis and
Delecia Smith Vanzant. He is a graduate of St. Augustine High School
and, as a student there, was selected as a youth representative for the
city of New Orleans.
As a student at Gannon University,
Vanzant has served on Student Government Association (SGA) for three
years, holding the positions of freshman class representative, sophomore
class chair, and vice president of academic affairs, his current position.
He has spent two years as a member of Gannon’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. Commemoration Committee and has been primarily responsible for
planning the university’s intercollegiate prayer service held on Martin
Luther King Day.
He also has served the university as a
resident assistant (RA) for Student Living, as a tour guide for the Office
of Admissions, and as a university ambassador. Garibaldi has nominated him
for the USA Today College Academic Team.

audio was composed entirely of Gannon students and included snippets of
radio shows, the station’s election night
