Tools for Faculty and Staff

Welcome faculty and staff! Thank you for taking time to look at our site.  Here are some ways that you can acclimate your students to the Writing Center and use the Writing Center to your benefit.   

  • Request a Writing Center Presentation. We can come to you, or you can come to us. Our presentations that happen inside your classroom range from 5-10 minutes and come with handouts for the students. Our presentations that happen inside the Writing Center last about 25-30 minutes and consist of a brief introduction to our services and a treasure hunt of resources available within the Writing Center.


  • Request a special Presentation. Working with APA or MLA style? We can help. One or two Writing Center Consultants supplied with handouts and strong knowledge of how to use style guides can visit your classroom. Presentations usually last 20-30 minutes.


  • Keep a file of assignments with us in the Writing Center. Whether you have one writing assignment or eight, we can have extra copies on hand to give to your students when they visit us. This also helps us as consultants to guide the students in the direction of the assignment.


  • Stay up to date. When students come in looking for references and guidance on APA and MLA styles, we lead them to the most up to date style guides. The information in these can often vary from what you are familiar with, or from your personal preferences as a professor. If your preferences do vary, it's important to know that for yourself and to inform your students. Look for your copy of the Writing Center's Rough Draft Times for Faculty and Staff at the beginning of the winter semester for samples of APA and MLA information that we use. We will also post that information here as it becomes available in PDF format.
