Twenty (20) $1000 scholarships are awarded (without applying) to the top 20 in the class (based on GPA).
The Donna Boucher Award Fund provides financial support for students who reside in the geographic region encompassed by the Northwest District of the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) enrolled in entry-level PT and PTA educational programs. Individuals receiving the award may utilize the funds to support attendance at professional meetings, and/or purchase textbooks and other required materials for their educational program.
Process:
An article announcing the award will be published annually in the winter District newsletter. Students seeking consideration should submit their name, address, school, anticipated graduation date, statement of need, and an explanation of how the funds would be utilized. They must also secure recommendations from a clinician within the Northwest District, and a faculty member in their educational program. Letters of recommendation and student information should be submitted to the attached address. All information is due by July 1. The recipient will be selected by the District Executive Committee in August.
The District Secretary will notify awardees and other nominees of the selection results via a letter. The secretary will maintain a list of award recipients and will update the application form as needed. The secretary will arrange for placement of the recipient name n the award plaque. The plaque will be presented to the student at the September meeting, to be placed for one year in their educational institution.
Eligibility:
To be considered for this scholarship, the applicant must be from the Northwest District, enrolled in a program outside of the district, or will be a student enrolled in a PT/PTA program within the Northwest District.. The student must demonstrate an interest in professional issues. This can be demonstrated through attendance at District meetings/functions, or reflected in their application statement and letters of recommendation. The student must express financial need, with accompanying expressed intent to utilize the award for further professional development. The student should be in good standing at their educational institution, and this is reflected in their letter of recommendation from the faculty member.
Award:
$400.00. Additionally, the District will fund the student’s next year’s APTA membership dues (student rate or career starter rate only).
