Psychology Department

The Department of Psychology prepares students for a variety of professional and liberal arts careers. We encourage you to read the following fact sheets and view our website to explore the many opportunities our department and faculty provide.

Our Bachelor's degree (BA) provides a strong foundation in research methods and behavioral science. Numerous internship opportunities exist in the Erie area, as well as opportunities to participate in research projects. Students complement their coursework with service learning through the Psychology Club and Gannon's Center for Social Concerns. We are also affiliated with the Psi Chi National Psychology Honorary Society which recognizes outstanding Psychology Majors. Students leave our program well-equipped to pursue a professional career or graduate studies.

Gannon’s Master of Science in Community Counseling (MS) degree program provides excellent preparation for a career in a professional counseling setting, including schools, human service agencies, and residential treatment programs. The program provides counselor training designed to provide skills and knowledge necessary to become a professional counselor. The majority of students in the program are full-time working professionals who bring a variety of experiences to the classroom. Students have opportunities to develop additional specializations through practicums and internships, while developing skills in assessment, school counseling, child and adolescent counseling, and family counseling.

We also offer two graduate-level certificate programs in Advance Counselor Studies and School Counselor Preparation.

Experience Psychology

The Psychology Department stresses the importance of hands-on learning. Students are offered opportunities to participate in real-life psychological experiments or investigate individual research topics of interest as early as the first class: "Intro to Psych" (PSYC111).
