To request services or get more information at the Gannon Psychological Services Clinic in a non-emergency situation call 814-871-7438. If no one answers, please feel free to leave a message on the confidential voice mail. Therapists are not available throughout the calendar year. The clinic operates in accordance with the academic calendar of the university; therefore assessments and sessions are not scheduled during breaks and holidays. Clinic voice mail is checked numerous times on a daily basis Monday-Friday according to the academic calendar. All phone referrals are forwarded to the Clinic Coordinator on a daily basis Monday-Friday except over school or legal holidays. In this case, the referral will be presented immediately upon resumption of the University’s normal activities. During the times when Gannon University is in operation, your call will be returned in 5 days by the Clinic Coordinator. Please note:
Gannon Psychological Services DOES NOT provide Emergency or Crisis Services.
In case of an emergency, please contact Erie County Crisis Services at 814-456-2014, call the police, or go to your nearest emergency room.
A supervisor is available at all times to clinic students. Supervision is multi-faceted, including group, one-to-one, video review and in-vivo supervision opportunities. Therapists are provided with at least one hour of direct supervision weekly. The students are required to participate in three consecutive semesters of clinic. This allows for continuity of care for clients and it allows for optimal supervision opportunities over time.
All services provided are professional and confidential. Clients are oriented to the clinic and services. During the orientation, clients are required to give their written consent to treatment and also to document their understanding of the clinic’s services. Clients are also required to provide a copy of their driver's license or photo ID.
All clients must agree to be videotaped. This is a necessary condition of receiving services at the Gannon Psychological Services Clinic. These videotapes are kept strictly confidential and are stored in a locked file, accessed by the therapist and supervisor only.
In addition, all clients must take part in a pre-therapy assessment process. The assessment process allows the clinic supervisors and staff to determine if available if services are appropriate for the client. The assessment process includes a detailed history and psychological assessment. This process takes about 3-4 hours and is a prerequisite for receiving counseling at the Psychological Services Clinic. In the event that services available will not meet the client’s needs, the client will be referred to other services in the community.
Information regarding counseling services will be released to other providers of health services at the client(s)'s written request. Case records, files and videotapes are kept under double lock and key. Clients reporting for sessions should ring the clinic doorbell and the clinician will be with them shortly.
Once enrolled in clinic, sessions will be scheduled at the client and therapist’s convenience. It is the responsibility of the client to attend sessions on time and to give ample notice of cancellations. Therapists will provide the client with additional details on how to be in contact with them.
