This program prepares a student for admission to any chiropractic school in the United States. Professional schools ordinarily require at least two semester of biology with laboratories, four semesters of chemistry with laboratories and two semsters of physics with laboratories.
A three-year option is available to students who have completed three years of study at Gannon University (96 credits, which must include all liberal studies requirements), and have achieved early acceptance to any accredited health professional school. The student must petition the director of the Premed and Related Programs, who in consultation with the Dean of the College of Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences and with that dean's approval, may be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences, upon completion of the first year of study at an accredited health professional school. The student must submit an official transcript showing successful completion of the first year of course work to the Gannon University Registar, who will forward it to the premed program director for review. Upon the director's and dean's approval, a B.S. in Health Sciences will be awarded to the student.
The Gannon University Health Professions Advisory Committee is composed of members of those health professions for which our students prepare themselves in the four year programs. The members assist the Director by reviewing the student applicants, by considering curricula required among the various majors and by acting as consultants when questions relevant to these programs occur during the academic year.
During the past 15 years more than 500 Gannon students have been accepted into various health professional schools. Last year, more than 70% of all Gannon students applying were accepted. Furthermore, among those not accepted but reapplying after a year of additional coursework and/or hosptial work experience, there has been a 50% success rate.
