This is an exciting time for Gannon’s Pre-Professional programs. Our programs have seen continued success in assisting Gannon undergraduates in securing a place in medical, pharmacy, dental, podiatry, optometry, chiropractic, and veterinary schools and have recently expanded opportunities for pre-professional students in gaining critical clinical and patient interaction experience.
Consistently, more than 70% of our candidates have met with successful placement into professional schools. In 2009, 21 of 31 pre-professional applicants and 17 of 19 pre-pharmacy applicants were accepted. These acceptance rates compare extremely favorably to the national success rate of approximately 45%. This success stems from the dedication of our administration and faculty in preparing our students for their professional training as well as the support from our affiliations.
Gannon's affiliation agreements with a number of health professional and pharmacy schools further enhance the opportunities for our students. Gannon currently has affiliations with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and School of Pharmacy (LECOM), Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), Ross University School of Medicine and School of Veterinary Medicine, Salus University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Temple University of Podiatric Medicine, Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy, and University of Charleston School of Pharmacy.
Area health professionals, a number of which are Gannon alumni, often meet with and advise our students. Many of them provide opportunities for our students to observe their practices in an office setting. These interactions along with new affiliations with Hamot Medical Center and new resources at Gannon University including the Patient Simulation Center in the Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences provide our students with valuable clinical and patient care experience.
While most of our students in the Pre-Professional program major in Biology or Chemistry, the strong liberal studies component of our curriculum has also attracted students to non-traditional majors such as Psychology and English.
I believe you will find that Gannon faculty are student-oriented, and our advising system is readily available to assist you. If you have any questions with respect to any of the Pre-Professional programs or Gannon University I would be happy to assist you. I may be contacted at (814) 871-7752 or by e-mail at ewing003@gannon.edu.
If you have not already done so, I encourage you to come spend a day at Gannon. During your visit you will have an opportunity to visit academic departments and meet with Pre-Professional Advisors. Please contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-GANNON-U, ext. 7407 to make these arrangements. I look forward to your arrival and attendance at Gannon University.
Sincerely yours,
