Volunteer Hours

Prior to entering the Physician Assistant Program, each student must accumulate thirty hours of health care exposure. In order to fulfill this requirement, the student must have interaction with patients in a health care setting. Merely shadowing a health care provider is not acceptable.

Volunteer work in a patient care setting such as a hospital, clinic, or geriatric center is acceptable. Prior experience in a medical field may also fulfill this requirement.

Each student will be required to provide the program's director with a verification letter from the agency where the health care exposure has taken place. These letters will be collected in the fall during your Introduction to the Physician Assistant Profession course, PHAS111.
