Entering a World of Friendship and Learning
Whether sharing a meal, a cultural experience, or a chat over coffee, Erie area residents and international students, scholars, and family members have the opportunity to learn about each other’s language, culture, traditions, perspectives, work and home life through participation in the International Student Host Program.
If you believe that you would enjoy getting to know an international student by sharing the time and energies it takes to develop a relationship, then please fill out this form and return it to the International Student Office.
Hosts may be singles, couples, families with children (young or grown); age peers or generations apart.
In the main, this is not a homestay program. Students live in their own housing and provide for their own routine needs. Concerns regarding student finances, health issues, and academics should be referred to University administration, although students often seek advice from those who may have greater experience or insight. Naturally, proselytizing is discouraged.
Hosts are requested to make contact with students at least once a month, if not more often, but this can take the form of shared meals, outings, phone calls, emails, and any other ways in which you would nourish a friendship.
Students are requested to respond to invitations promptly, maintain regular contact, and take care to direct concerns regarding finances, health, academic and immigration status to the ISO or other University resources. Students interested in participating in the host program should complete this form.
Every semester more than 100 international students arrive to study at Gannon University as both undergraduates and graduates.
Many of the international students represent the ancient traditions and contemporary perspectives of India, while others bring with them the cultural heritage of nations spanning Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.
It is hoped that both hosts and students will endeavor to learn about each other as individuals and as cultural representatives.
