Choosing Courses, Registering, and
Meeting With An Academic Advisor

Graduate Students

Graduate Students may look up their academic department online or use information from the Admissions packet to contact the department Chair or an assigned academic advisor for more information about specific academic expectations and coursework. First-year graduate students generally take 3 classes (9 credits) in the first semester from among a narrow range of required classes. Each academic department determines which courses will be available from semester to semester, and which students will have the opportunity to register for these courses.

In the days just before, or in the hours following International Student Orientation, first-year graduates will have the opportunity to review the selected coursework and take their completed registration forms to the Registrar's office for processing.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students are pre-assigned a set of courses which are required of all freshmen. International undergraduates may pick up copies of their course schedules and registration forms from the ISO just before or during International Student Orientation and complete the official registration process through the Registrar's office before classes begin.

Although undergraduates do not formally meet with an advisor until the second semester, you may request to meet with an advisor in the department in which you choose to major, or you may meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center in Palumbo Hall.

Stay Informed

ALL international students
may (and should) meet with a departmental academic advisor when questions about academic coursework, expectations, conduct, or other issues arise in connection with making progress toward a degree.

If you have academic concerns, the International Student Office can serve as a resource and liaison.
