Environmental Health and Air Quality Workshop for High School Teachers Weslene Tallmadge and Michelle Homan The purpose of this workshop was to equip participants with tools and resources related to air quality that can easily be implemented within the classroom. The workshop emphasized hands-on activities that require students to gather and analyze information available through the Internet, construct and utilize tools to evaluate air quality and perform household surveys to assess their contribution to the problem. All activities and exercises presented were correlated to the PA Academic Standards for Environment and Ecology. Further information about or copies of the activities used in the workshop is available by contacting Michelle Homan at homan@gannon.edu This project was supported by an Environmental Education grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection. |

Microscale Chemistry Pilot Project (MCPP) Gannon's Departments of Chemistry and Environmental Science & Engineering were involved in assisting the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit in the implementation of a pilot microscale chemistry program in 3 area high schools (Harbor Creek, Strong Vincent and NorthWest School District). The activities involved in this initiative include training, equipment purchases and follow-up technical assistance. The long-range goal is to expand the microscale programs to other schools in the area and hopefully serve as a model program that can be applied in other areas of the state or country. This project was funded through a grant from the Great Lakes Fund. |
