Emphasizing four different areas (literature, writing, applied communications, and English/Secondary Education), our Department:
  • Inspires students to be informed readers and seasoned writers

  • Cultivates students' ability to write in a variety of genres for different audiences and purposes

  • Offers internships

  • Features student-run publications such as the Gannon Knight (the University newspaper) and Totem (a literary magazine)

  • And for students interested in law, the Department also offers an early admission legal studies program with Duquesne University's School of Law.

Whether you are seeking a career in education, publishing, journalism, media, public relations, government, business, industry or law, as a Gannon English or Journalism Communications student you will acquire the scholarly focus, broad preparation, and intellectual awareness that form the basis of an intensive Liberal Arts education. Employers know our majors are well read, can write clearly, and have excellent analytical skills.

I am always happy to talk with students, both current and prospective, who might be interested in a major or minor offered through our Department. Please feel free to e-mail or phone me, or stop by my office.
