The Applied Master's Portfolio is one of the major components of the Master of Education: Curriculum and Instruction - Cohort. The degree requirements for the Master of Education are 25 core credits, 12 elective credits and a portfolio presentation.
DETAILS:
- Provides a valuable resource for communicating how each individual adheres to the Pennsylvania Department of Education's professional standards by which our programs are accredited.
- Provides an opportunity for the candidate to showcase products from each course in the Master of Education program.
- Provides an understanding of the use of theoretical components used to address educational needs through creating change that results in an improved learning environment.
- Provides an opportunity to showcase practical educational applications and their foundation in educational best practices or established theory.
PORTFOLIO ORIENTATION:
The orientation provides a developmental structure to complete an applied Master's Portfolio(AMP). The AMP contains comprehensive documentation of authentic achievement based on continuing review, reflection and refinement of selected educational topics or themes that have been developed and refined throughout the M.Ed. program. The final concentration of this course will be the preparation for an oral presentation of the completed Master's AMP.
OUTCOMES/RESULTS:
The student will learn:
- To use the portfolio as a means to demonstrate educational growth and development.
- To use the portfolio as a means to implement the theme of teacher as change agent.
- To use the portfolio as an opportunity to focus on one educational area with the goal of improving the student's (teacher's) curriculum or instructional program.
- To use the portfolio as a guiding outline for the culminating Master's project presentation.
- To use the portfolio to promote the integration of theory and knowledge to link required course work to Pennsylvania Department of Education standards.
