Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) Student Chapter
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical professional society. Founded in 1884, today's institute includes 46,000 students within a total membership of over 300,000. To realize the objectives of advancing the theory and practice of electrical, electronics and computer engineering and computer science, the IEEE sponsors nearly 800 student branches worldwide, as well as scholarships and awareness programs, technical confrerences, symposia and local meetings. The active IEEE student Chapter at Gannon University holds regular meetings and sponsors special seminars and tours. All electrical engineering students are invited to attend and encouraged to join the IEEE at special student rates. As an IEEE student member, journals and activities will provide you with state-of-the-art technical information, expose the student to the latest trends in industry and help make important personal contacts with working engineerts. It also offers the opportunity to develop personal communication skills needed to be successful in today's complex work environment. Employers look favorably on IEEE membership, which can help when interviewing for employment. IEEE membership give the competitive edge you need to succeed in your career.
Eta Kappa Nu (Electrical Engineering Honor Society)
Students in Electrical Engineering, who honor their alma mater by distinguished scholarship, activities, leadership and exemplary character in their junior or senior year who are pursuing courses leading to a Baccalaureate or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering may be elected to Eta Kappa Nu.
Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
These organizations provide a forum for communications with engineers in practice as well as offering opportunities to tour engineering projects. Members of the local SWE chapter include engineers from General Electric, AMSCO, Lord Corporation, International Paper, Caliscat and Autoclave. All interested students are invited to attend their monthly meetings and get involved with the various activities of the student chapter.
