Participation in student organizations provides students the opportunity to enhance their academic experience. This involvement allows students to acquire valuable leadership, communication, and organizational skills, sharpen problem solving and decision making skills, and learn to work as a member of a team. Activities including field trips, seminars/lectures by distinguished engineers, and trips to regional and national professional society meetings.

Rapid technological advances in computers, robotics, and automation, combined with declining enrollments in engineering, have created a substantial demand for mechanical and industrial engineers. High-technology industries want mechanical and industrial engineers because of their technical versatility and adaptability to a broad range of engineering activities. Excellent opportunities exist in energy, manufacturing and fabrication, machine and tool design, public transportation, and a host of other industries.

A thesis can be done by students seeking the MS degree. The student's academic advisor must approve the subject of the thesis. The Graduate School will furnish general thesis regulations upon request. Any student who wishes to use University facilities or to confer with the faculty on thesis work must be officially enrolled for thesis credit.
