I'm Kaylee Kebort, a sophomore CJ major/Spanish minor here at Gannon. I'm from Conneaut Lake, Pa., which is about 45 minutes south of Erie. I think Conneaut Lake's biggest claims to fame are probably the lake, which is the largest natural lake in Pennsylvania (or something), our amusement park, which comes close to closing down literally every summer, and our "haunted" hotel, the Hotel Conneaut. I went to Conneaut Lake High School, where I graduated in 2005 in a class of 67 students.
To be completely honest, I only had interest in Gannon at first because someone informed me that they gave class valedictorians a full-tuition scholarship. However once I got here, I found that everyone was really friendly and helpful. I also like the location of campus. Lake Erie is right down the road, as are the Warner Theater and the Erie Playhouse. The Erie Courthouse is also located right in the middle of campus, which is going to be very convenient this summer, when I'll be completing a 9 credit internship with the County Detectives' office there.
I'm pretty involved on campus. I'm a member of Lambda Sigma (the sophomore honor society), P.A.T.C.H.E.S, Campus Conservatives, Model United Nations, the Gannon Knight newspaper staff, the Relay for Life committee, and Alpha Phi Sigma (the Criminal Justice Honor Society). I also like to play on as many intramural sports teams as possible. Next year I will serve as the assistant features editor of the newspaper and the Vice President of Alpha Phi Sigma, and I also hope to get involved with the Activities Programming Board.
I've really enjoyed my time in the CJ program so far. The CJ faculty members are a lot of fun, and all of them have a lot of great stories to tell about their experiences in the field. The workload isn't bad at all and most of the courses are pretty interesting. I'm not sure exactly what I want to do with my degree yet, but I'm considering the idea of working as a missing/exploited children investigator. I'm hoping that my internship this summer will help give me a better idea of what I'd like to do with my life.
