Community Service

What do tutoring elementary school children in math and volunteering at a fish hatchery have to do with criminal justice?

ANSWER:

Plenty when you consider students in the Criminal Justice Program are required to perform at least 100 hours of community service by the time they graduate from Gannon.

Not only do students give something back to the local community, they gain valuable skills in communication, organization, and leadership while doing so -- skills they take with them when transitioning from college students to professionals in the workplace.

In addition to students tailoring their service to individual interests, the Department participates in projects throughout the year, including the Social Work Department's Christmas Dinner, the Child Identification Program sponsored by Alpha Phi Sigma, and the Erie Neighborhood Art House after school program.

Between internships and community service, students in the criminal justice are afforded opportunities to learn well beyond the classroom.
