GBL/GIT Basketball RULES

Who is eligible?

Any current Gannon student, staff or faculty member. Roster's are limited to either 1 basketball coach or ex-varsity basketball player. An ex-varsity athlete is defined as one who has not appeared on the present year's roster, but was on the previous year's roster. An athlete removed from a varsity roster for more than 1 year is considered part of the regular student body and does not count as an ex-varsity athlete.

Roster's : Roster's may consist of up to 12 members. All rosters will be final as of tipoff of your team's second game. An individual may not participate in more than 1 league or switch teams at any time. Tournament rosters are final as of tipoff of your first game.

General Rules : There will be 2 seperate leagues, 1 for men and 1 for women. If there is enough interest, the men may be divided into a competitive and a non-competitive league.

* Games consist of 2 - 16 minute halves.

* Clock only stops in the last 2 minutes of each half and overtime.

* 2 timeouts per half, no carryover of timeouts.

* Overtime will be 2 minutes, we will play as many as necessary. (start with tip)

* Each player gets 6 personal fouls.

* 7 team fouls = 1/1, 10 team fouls = 2 shots.

* Need at least 4 players to begin a game. You have 10 minutes from the scheduled start time to have a team on the court and avoid a forfeit. If you forfeit 2 games your team will be removed from the league.

* NO SLAM DUNKING OR HANGING ON THE RIM, THIS ACTION WILL BE GIVEN A TECHNICAL FOUL AND A POSSIBLE 3 GAME SUSPENSION (THIS CAN CARRY OVER FROM SEMESTER TO SEMESTER). THE INDIVIDUAL WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE REMAINDER OF THE GAME IN PROCESS AT THE LEAST.

* All major rules of college basketball will apply. DO NOT ARGUE WITH OFFICIALS, THIS ACTION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN A TECHNICAL AND POSSIBLE EJECTION. If you have a problem with a call in relation to improper rules interpretation, put an appeal in writing within 24 hours (to the supervisor). The supervisor will contact our basketball coaches for the proper ruling. The supervisor has the final decision at all times.

* Fighting (physical or verbal) will not be tolerated. Technical and ejection.

** Each team is required to submit a $25 forfeit fee (receipt from cashier's office). This must be turned in before the start of your team's first game.
