We recognize that financial aid is an important part of your college decision. Last year approximately 90% of our students qualified for financial aid. Gannon offers financial aid resources to students who demonstrate need or have shown academic ability, athletic skill, or leadership qualities.
Performance/Ability-Based Scholarships
Many students have outstanding talent. Gannon recognizes these special abilities and offers scholarships based on academic ability, athletic skill, and leadership qualities. High school records are reviewed for outstanding performances in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, or in the community. If you demonstrate such talent, you may qualify for academic and leadership scholarships. Many of Gannon's intercollegiate athletic teams also offer athletic scholarships to student athletes.
Need Based Financial Aid
Funds based on need are awarded from the federal and state governments in the forms of grants and loans. Need-based funds are also available from the University. The amounts and types of aid awarded are based on your determined financial need and on the degree to which funds are available. The calculation to determine whether you demonstrate need is:
Total Cost of Attendance - Family Contribution = Need
The Total Cost of Attendance is determined by adding the charges for tuition, fees, room, board, books, and miscellaneous expenses. The family contribution will be computed from the financial information you provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The formula used to determine your family contribution was developed by the federal government and is used by all post-secondary institutions. Your family contribution is an assessment of your financial strength.
While your income is an important part of financial strength, many other factors are examined. Family size, number of children in college, and assets are just a few of the other factors that are also taken into account.
The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for Pennsylvania State Grants (for Pennsylvania residents) as well as the federal government's Pell Grant Program and eligibility for the Federal Stafford Student Loan.
