Does Gannon Have Next Great Star?
new talent competition coming to campus Sept. 23-24
Gannon University and the University’s Activities Programming Board (APB) will host performances for the taping of a nationally broadcast reality show’s pilot.
Cast and crew from “America’s Next Great Star,” a new talent competition, will be on campus Sept. 23-24 looking for talented Gannon University students to compete for a first prize of $500 and the opportunity to be reviewed by industry professionals in Los Angeles, New York City, and Nashville, Tenn.
An open casting call for Gannon students will be held from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Friendship Green, located outside the University’s Waldron Campus Center, 124 W. 7th St. The rain location will be the upper lounge of Gannon’s Student Services building, 111 W. 5th St.
During the open call, students will be able to showcase a variety of talents, including singing, dancing, juggling, magic acts, contortionism, comedy, or other unique skills.
The participants from the Sept. 23 open call will be whittled down to about 10 students who gave the best performances as deemed by members of the Gannon APB, the producers of the show, and several Gannon students working the event as interns.
The 10 students who make the initial cut will perform for a live, 90-minute taping being held at 8 p.m. Sept. 24 in room 104 of the University’s Zurn Science Center, 143 West 7th St. After the students’ live performances, a panel of judges will choose three finalists, and at that point, the audience, including members of the general public, will pick a winner, who will receive $500.
Both the casting call and the live tapings are free and open to spectators. Seating in Zurn Science Center for the Sept. 24 portion of the event is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis.
