Gannon Hosting Asian Festival
Aug. 22 event to feature great food, fun
Gannon will host the second Asian Festival on Saturday, Aug. 22 at the University’s Hammermill Center, 620 Peach St.

The festival, presented by the Erie Asian Pacific American Forum, will be held from 12-6 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

“East – West: Embracing Peace and Harmony,” is the theme of the festival, which is designed to increase awareness of the rich cultures of Asia and to promote peace, understanding, and inclusiveness.

Through artifacts, artwork, and crafts, the event will celebrate and honor the culture and tradition of 12 countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore.

Interactive children’s activities and demonstrations, such as Chinese paper folding, calligraphy, and Henna painting, will be held throughout the day. The center stage will showcase Chinese, Indian, and Filipino folk dances, Kazakhstani music, and Asian martial arts.

Foods from China, India, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Kazakhstan will be sold.

The event’s sponsors include Gannon University, GE Transportation, Erie Insurance, Mercyhurst College, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), and the City of Erie.

The event is also supported by the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment of the Arts.
