King Lear, Julius Caesar Coming to Campus
6th annual Shakespeare Summer Nights begins in July
Local Shakespeare enthusiasts will have a chance to see at Gannon University in July free performances of two Shakespearian favorites.
The University’s sixth annual Shakespeare Summer Nights begins Thursday, July 9 with a performance of King Lear. Additional performances of King Lear – the tale of a once-mighty king’s fall from greatness – will be held Friday and Saturday, July 10-11.
Gannon’s performances of King Lear are directed by Zach Flock, Gannon class of 2005, and features Fr. Shawn Clerkin ‘86, Chris Sanner ‘87, Almi Clerkin ‘85, Alaina Manchester ‘07, and Chris Watson ‘08.
Shakespeare Summer Nights also includes showings of Julius Caesar on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 16-18. The original political thriller, Caesar chronicles the conspiracy behind the assassination of the Roman dictator, and the aftermath of the crime. The performances are directed by Josh Mizikowski and feature Chris Watson ‘08, Nathan McCarty, Evan O’Polka, Charity Walker, and Brittany Barnebei.
All Shakespeare Summer Nights performances are free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the courtyard area of Gannon University’s Robert H. Morosky Academic Center, 150 West 10th St. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
