Acclaimed Poet to Speak April 22
Li-Young Lee will read a selection of his poetry during Gannon University's 32nd annual English Awards Night
Gannon University will host its 32nd annual English Awards Night at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 in the Yehl Room of the Waldron Campus Center, 124 West 7th St.

Li-Young Lee, the event’s featured speaker, will read a selection of his work. He is the author of four highly-acclaimed books of poetry, the most recent of which, Behind My Eyes, was published in 2008.

Lee’s memoir, The Winged Seed: A Remembrance, received an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation.

The poet Gerald Stern said of Lee and his work, “What characterizes his poetry is a certain humility… a willingness to let the sublime enter his field of concentration and take over, a devotion to language, a belief in its holiness.”

Also during the event, the winners of the Gannon English Department’s annual High School Poetry Contest will be announced.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Gannon English Department at 814-871-7504.
