International Admissions

Your Home Country

The US government does not restrict the amount of foreign currency that may be brought into the United States in exchange for American dollars. However, many foreign governments have restrictions regarding currency exchange or the amount that can be taken out of the country. Some governments require a letter from the University certifying acceptance, dates of enrollment, and expense estimates before releasing or exchanging funds. In most cases your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or IAP-66) will fulfill these requirements. Remember that it is your responsibility to arrange monetary transfer permission. Students have experienced problems because they did not receive funds or had delays in payment. At various times, large sums of cash may be needed to satisfy financial obligations such as tuition and other university bills.

University Billing

The University bills students each semester for all University related charges (tuition, student fees and on-campus room and board). Students will receive their bill prior to the beginning of classes and it will have a specific due date. Failure to pay the amount billed by the due date will result in additional late payment fees.

Each student must come prepared to meet his or her financial obligations. When at all possible, new international students should have funds made payable to them in U.S. dollars, and not to the University. The easiest means of exchange is the Traveler's Check. We do not recommend that you carry large sums of cash.

Immigration regulations prohibit international students from working off-campus except in special circumstances. Therefore, you should not rely on being able to support yourself through employment.
