Thank you for your interest in Gannon University. As you will see when you explore this Web site, Gannon is a highly ranked university with dynamic faculty and more than 100 strong undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in the sciences, health sciences, education, business and humanities. For the sixth consecutive year, Gannon is ranked nationally as a Top Tier Master’s university in the northern section of the United States by U.S. News & World Report’s "America’s Best Colleges 2010." Gannon was also selected as one of U.S. News & World Report’s Top Up-and-Coming Schools, which is determined by a peer assessment survey of high-ranking college officials and recognizes institutions "that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus or facilities." These national rankings are a compliment to the academic quality of students like you and the dedication of our Gannon faculty and staff to academic excellence.

As a University grounded in the Catholic tradition, Gannon’s faculty and staff are committed to providing students with the best education possible and to develop them intellectually, professionally, spiritually and socially. In addition to providing a variety of course offerings at our vibrant downtown campus, we also ensure that our students have the state-of-the-art facilities and resources to complement their academic programs so that they will be able to achieve their professional and personal goals. For example, the $18.5 million renovation of the Zurn Science Center has just been completed. Classrooms, laboratories, hallways, restrooms and lobbies have been upgraded and additional student-centered areas have been created. A state-of-the-art Patient Simulation Center and a new dining services area are now open on the lower level of the Robert H. Morosky Academic Center. And the Campus Master Plan was completed in Spring 2009 and several other projects are already underway.

Gannon’s Fall 2009 total enrollment of 4,238 is the highest since 1992. This year the University enrolled a class of 649 freshmen, 102 transfer students and 1,260 graduate students. More than 220 of the graduate students are from eight countries. Over the past four years, Gannon has increased the diversity of its freshman classes by 40 percent. The average SAT of this year’s freshman class is 1019, and the average high school grade point average is 3.4 and includes 26 high school valedictorians. The first-year students come from 18 states and nine countries. I encourage you to read more about some of the outstanding members of this year’s 2009 Freshman Class by clicking on Gannon’s Admissions Web site. Additionally, 52 freshmen are enrolled in Gannon’s challenging Honors Program this fall. The average SAT score for the new Honors Program students is 1210 and their average grade point average is 4.0.

Here at Gannon we take pride in having all the right ingredients for a successful college career, including: a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio; retention, graduation, and employment/graduate and professional school placement rates that are significantly higher than the national averages; a full range of extra- and co-curricular activities, including more than 70 campus clubs and organizations, and challenging leadership opportunities. If you are interested in athletics, we have 18 competitive NCAA Division II athletics teams and an active intramural program of more than two dozen sports. Our coaches expect and demand that our student-athletes also perform well in the classroom. Because of this emphasis on academic performance, our 344 intercollegiate student-athletes collectively earned a 3.22 grade point average during the Spring 2009 semester. In addition, 69 student-athletes earned a 4.0 grade point average during the 2008-09 Academic Year and more than 37 percent of them were named to the Dean’s List. Furthermore, Gannon’s Academic Success Rate (ASR) among student-athletes is 81 percent, which is 11 percent higher than the national average among all NCAA Division II Athletic programs.

Gannon University is dedicated to meeting students’ technological needs. Internet bandwidth has been increased three-fold to 100 Mbps, or roughly 100 times the bandwith of a typical home broadband connection. Additionally, a new comprehensive security software is being used by our Information Technology Services office to more effectively protect your PC and the entire network from spam e-mail, viruses and other malware. Visitor information kiosks, known as "findit!," have been installed in the lobbies of the Waldron Campus Center, the Palumbo Academic Center, the Zurn Science Center and the Morosky Academic Center.

As you reduce your college choices to one institution, please consider this: approximately 31,500 successful Gannon and Villa Maria College alumni reside in every state of the nation and in 46 countries. Whether they are engineers, scientists, lawyers, priests and women religious, teachers, physicians and nurses, business executives, or government professionals, they are leaders in their professions, in their churches, and in their communities. I encourage you to visit our campus as soon as possible. And it is my hope that after your visit, you too will believe in the possibilities at Gannon University.
