GANNON BASEBALL LOSES HOME
TWINBILL TO WAYNE STATE
 
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon nine suffered a pair of tough losses to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Wayne State University Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights baseball team dropped game one of its home doubleheader 4-1 and game two 10-4.
   
The Golden Knights are 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC. Wayne State improved to 4-0 in conference play and 6-7 overall.
   
Jonathan Dziomba (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Joe’s Collegiate) scored Gannon’s only run of the first game off a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning.
   
Wayne State pitcher Justin Mazur earned the win. Mazur threw five strikeouts and allowed five hits, one walk, and zero runs in five innings.
   
Evan Euler (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) recorded the loss. The sophomore pitched six and two-thirds innings, striking out one batter and allowing six hits, four walks, and four runs.
   
In the second contest, Gannon answered Wayne State’s game-opening run with two in the bottom of the first.
   
Dziomba scored Ford Eisenman (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) with an RBI double down the right-field line. Dziomba recorded the second run after stealing home.
   
The Golden Knights produced two more runs in the second inning.
   
Shane Braendel (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) reached home plate after Hoffman reached on an error by third baseman Caleb Dalman.
   
Dziomba received his second RBI when walked with the bases loaded. Ryan Tann (Fairview, Pa./Cathedral Prep) scored the unearned run.
   
Warriors pitcher Josh Lewis earned the win. Lewis allowed two hits, three walks, and zero runs after five and two-thirds innings in relief. Lewis struck out four batters.
   
Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) suffered the loss. The starting Gannon pitcher struck out four batters in six innings and allowed seven hits, nine runs, and five walks.
   
The Golden Knights return to action on Tuesday, March 25 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Slippery Rock.
