GANNON BASEBALL BESTED BY
SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
 
   
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Despite mid-game rallies in both contests, the Gannon University baseball team was unable to overtake Saginaw Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double dip Sunday afternoon at SVSU Baseball Field.
   
Gannon fell 5-3 and 9-6, respectively, putting the Golden Knights at 7-31 overall and 3-23 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals improve to 28-12 this year and 16-8 in conference action.
   
Down 8-0 after four inning in game two, Gannon pulled within three after the fifth inning closed.
   
Junior Eric Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell) opened the inning with his third triple this season. Jim Travers’ (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) sent Harpster home with his single to center field in the next at-bat.
   
Ryan Tann (Fairview, Pa./Cathedral Prep) hit a three-run RBI triple. Tann, who went 2 for 3, crossed home plate on a Ford Eisenman (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) single to right center, giving the Golden Knights their fifth and final run of the inning.
   
SVSU recorded one run in the bottom of the sixth, its previous runs coming in the first (2), second (1) and third (5).
   
Gannon responded with a Drew Rojek (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) sacrifice fly that sent Koten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) home in the seventh; however, the Gannon nine were unable to produce any more runs.
   
The Cardinals opened game one with two runs in the first and went on to produce three more in the subsequent inning.
   
Gannon began chipping away at their lead in the fourth.

Chris Miller (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) produced a two-run RBI double to bring the Golden Knights within three. Miller had two hits on three at-bats.
   
Travers scored Eisenman from third on a single to center field in the seventh inning.
   
The Golden Knights out-hit the Cardinals in both games (8-7 and 12-10, respectively) and recorded one error in game one.
   
Gannon continues conference play against the University of Findlay at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30. The doubleheader will be held at Swale Park in Findlay, Ohio.
   
The Golden Knights split their first doubleheader with the Oilers on April 16, losing game one 11-6 and taking game two 5-4 in nine innings.
