BASEBALL DROPS TWO
AT SLIPPERY ROCK
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Gannon University
baseball team fell 9-5 and 4-3, respectively, against non-conference
foe Slippery Rock University in doubleheader action Tuesday afternoon.
Slippery Rock (10-5) closed the first inning of game one with three
runs scored, but Gannon tied it up with three of its own in the top of
the second.
Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex,
Pa./West Middlesex) scored Radwan from second base after hitting
a double to left center.
Hoffman scored an unearned run from third base after Shane Braendel (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep)
grounded into double play.
Chris Miller (Franklin, Pa./Franklin)
scored on an error.
The Rock scored one run in the third inning.
Brandon Crum (Saegertown,
Pa./Saegertown) gave the the Golden Knights (2-10) a run in the
fourth inning, with Jonathan Dziomba
(Williamsville, N.Y./St. Joe’s Collegiate) getting credit for
the RBI.
Slippery Rock scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings before Gannon
added one more to its tally in the sixth.
Ford Eisenman (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria
Academy) reached home from third base when Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis)
reached first on a fielder’s choice.
The Golden Knights were unable to recover the lead after The Rock
scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Slippery Rock’s Sean Holliday earned the win. Holliday struck-out five
batters and allowed four hits, four runs, and four walks in four
innings.
Braendel suffered the loss. The Gannon freshman struck-out two batters
and allowed seven hits, five runs, and five walks in four innings.
In game two, Eisenman scored on an error to put Gannon on the board in
the first inning.
Slippery Rock equalized the game at the bottom of the inning, but the
Golden Knights held a 3-1 advantage after two innings.
Jim Travers (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep)
scored from third base on a wild pitch.
Eric Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell)
reached on a walk and stole second. The junior scored on Dziomba’s
single up the middle.
The Gannon nine were unable to keep the lead. Slippery Rock posted runs
in the third, fourth, and seventh innings.
Slippery Rock pitcher Mike DeCola earned the win after a scoreless
seventh inning in relief. DeCola struck-out three batters.
Gannon’s Nick Licskai (Paris,
Ontario/Paris District) suffered the loss. Licskai struck-out
three batters and allowed nine hits, four runs, and two walks in six
innings of service for the Golden Knights.
Gannon will play a make-up doubleheader at Alderson-Broaddus on
Thursday, March 27. The twinbill is scheduled for 1 p.m.
