GANNON
WINS OPENING GAME OF
GLIAC DOUBLEHEADER
MIDLAND, Mich. – After a postponement and
delay due to inclement weather, the Gannon University baseball team
finally got the chance to square off against Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Northwood University
(14-13, 2-10) at Gerace Stadium Sunday.
The Golden Knights split the afternoon twinbill. Gannon picked up a win
with a 7-1 victory in game one and dropped game two 16-2.
Gannon (6-18, 2-10) allowed one run in the sixth after holding a 2-0
lead through game one’s first five innings.
The Golden Knights put the lead out of reach in the seventh with five
runs scored.
Eric Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell),
who went 3 for 3 with two runs and
three RBIs, hit a two-run RBI single to score Drew Rojek (Lake View,
N.Y./Frontier) and Ryan Tann
(Fairview, Pa./Cathedral Prep), while
advancing to second on an error by Northwood left fielder Matt
Czajkowski.
Harpster and Ford Eisenman (Erie,
Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored on
Gannon’s second two-run RBI single of the inning, courtesy of Greg
Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis).
Gannon’s final run of the game came on a first-and-third play. Kolten
Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) stole home as
Radwan stole
second.
Nick Lisckai (Paris, Ontario/Paris
District) recorded the win after 5
2/3 innings on the mound for the Golden Knights. Lisckai (1-5) gave up
three hits, one run, and one walk and struck out two batters.
Rojek earned the save. The redshirt-sophomore made one strikeout and
walked one batter in 1 1/3 innings.
The Golden Knights play a second doubleheader against Northwood on
Monday, April 14 at noon.
