GANNON
BASEBALL WINS FINAL
GAME OF REGULAR SEASON
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University baseball
team won the second game of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader 6-2 against Hillsdale College Sunday
afternoon at Gannon University Field. Hillsdale (17-29, 10-18) won the
first game 5-3.
The Golden Knights (8-36, 4-28) opened the day with a 9-7 loss to the
Chargers, in a game that was resumed after suspension in the third
inning Saturday due to rain.
In the second regularly scheduled game, Gannon pitcher Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis)
gave up two earned runs on five hits, while striking out seven to earn
the win.
Down 1-0 in the third inning, Radwan put the Golden Knights on the
board with a two-run double to left field, driving in Jonathan Dziomba (Williamsville, N.Y./St.
Joe’s Collegiate) and Ryan
Tann (Fairview, Pa./Cathedral Prep). Radwan scored in the next
at-bat on a Hillsdale throwing error.
Hillsdale scored one run in the top of fourth, but the Golden Knights
countered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Tann, who went 3 for 4, led off the inning with a single to right
field. Tann then scored on a Dziomba double to left center.
Senior John Pichette singled to left field, driving in Gannon’s final
two runs. Pichette went 2 for 2 in game two.
Hillsdale pitcher Brian Davis suffered the loss, giving up six runs on
seven hits in five innings on the mound.
In game one, Gannon attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh
inning.
Tann hit a ground-rule double to right center, scoring Chris Miller (Franklin, Pa./Franklin)
and Dziomba. The freshman crossed home plate on a Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West
Middlesex) single up the middle in the next at-bat.
Eric Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell)
went 2 for 3 with a double in the first inning.
Gannon scored five runs in the last two innings of its resumed game,
falling just short of a comeback victory.
Dziomba, who went 2 for 4, hit a towering solo home run to right field
in the sixth.
Radwan followed with a double down the right field line, his second of
the game. Tann later doubled to center field in the same inning,
scoring Radwan.
In the bottom of the seventh, Dziomba doubled to right center, driving
in Radwan.
Tann concluded Gannon scoring with a two-run single up the middle,
scoring Dziomba and Jim Travers
(Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep).
Sunday’s victory was Gannon’s last event as a member of the GLIAC.
Gannon, who joined the GLIAC in 1995, will play in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) next season.
