GANNON BASEBALL DROPS TWINBILL
AGAINST KENTUCKY WESLEYAN

FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The Gannon University baseball team fell twice to Kentucky Wesleyan (3-9) Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Tournament. The Panthers took game one of the doubleheader 6-5 and game two 9-7.

Kentucky Wesleyan opened game one with a run in the first, but Gannon answered back with three of its own in the bottom of the inning.

Chris Miller (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) hit a two-run RBI that sent Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) and Jonathan Dziomba (Williamsville, N.Y./St Joe’s Collegiate) across home plate. Kolten Hoffman’s (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) double scored Miller.

The Panthers put one more on the board in the second inning. However, the Golden Knights increased their lead by three with runs courtesy of Ford Eisenman (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Eric Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell).

Gannon was unable to maintain the lead. Kentucky Wesleyan scored one run in the fourth and three in the sixth.

The Panthers’ Chris Owen earned the win for his five innings of service in relief.

Nick Lisckai (Paris, Ontario/Paris District) suffered the loss. The sophomore pitched five and one-third innings; recorded five strikeouts; and allowed eight hits, seven walks, and five earned runs.

Kentucky Wesleyan out-hit Gannon 11-6. The Golden Knights made two errors; the Panthers made one.

Harpster gave Gannon (2-4) its first run in game two at the top of the first inning off of a Miller single.

Kentucky Wesley put one run on the board in the second inning.

Harpster scored again in the third off of a Miller single, reaching scoring position on a triple.

The Panthers responded with a tying run in the bottom of the inning.

Shane Braendel (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Jim Travers (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) each produced runs in the fourth inning, but Gannon lost its two-run lead in the sixth. Kentucky Wesleyan scored seven times.

Harpster scored his third run of the game in the twinbill’s final inning off of a Radwan double. Radwan crossed home plate courtesy of Dzioimba’s two-run homer.

Rex Gillim earned the win after one inning on the mound.

Harpster suffered the loss for Gannon. The junior threw six strikeouts and allowed seven hits, two walks, and four earned runs in five innings.

The Golden Knights out-hit Kentucky Wesleyan 17-11 and had two errors.

Gannon faces the University of North Dakota for a doubleheader in its final day at the Gene Cusic Tournament. Play begins at noon Wednesday, March 5.
