  SOPHOS Endpoint Protection

ITS is pleased to announce that Gannon University computers will be using SOPHOS Anti-virus software.  This software will replace Symantec's Anti-Virus software.

SOPHOS Endpoint Protection is a robust Security program that provides Anti-Virus, Malware, Spyware, and Adware protection all in one program.

Sophos Endpoint Protection only supports 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows: XP & Vista and MAC OS X clients.

As an added feature all Faculty ,Staff and Students are allowed to install SOPHOS Endpoint Protection on their personal home computer.   This is the same software installed on your Gannon computer (complete with the same protection and functionality).   To get your copy please follow the instructions below.

Note: If you have another Anti-Virus program installed on your computer please Remove it first by following the instructions below:

    Uninstalling Existing Anti Virus

  • Windows XP: Uninstall your existing antivirus software
    1. Click on Start >> Programs >>
    2. Locate your antivirus software. If there is an Uninstall select it and follow the prompts through the uninstallation. If it asks you whether you want to remove shared files, click No to All.
      • If you do not have the Uninstall option, click on Start >> Settings >> Control Panel.
      • Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
      • Select your antivirus software and click the Add/Remove button. Follow the uninstallation prompts.
      • If your antivirus software has a 'Live Update' uninstall that also.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Proceed with installing Sophos AntiVirus.

  • Vista: Uninstall your existing antivirus software
    1. Click on Start >> Programs >>
    2. Locate your antivirus software. If there is an Uninstall select it and follow the prompts through the uninstallation. If it asks you whether you want to remove shared files, click No to All.
      • If you do not have the Uninstall option, click on Start >> Control Panel.
      • in the Programs section, click on Uninstall a program.
      • Select your antivirus software and click Uninstall. Follow the uninstallation prompts.
      • If your antivirus software has a 'Live Update' uninstall that also.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Proceed with installing Sophos AntiVirus.

  • MAC: Uninstall your existing antivirus software
    1. Simply drag the software icon to the trash can.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Proceed with installing Sophos AntiVirus.

    Installing Sophos Anti Virus

    1. Download the Sophos self installation file and save it to an easily accessible location such as your desktop. During the installation process you will need an active internet connection as the latest files are downloaded from our Sophos web site.
    2. Windows: Run the file by double-clicking on it.
      • Wait while the installation files are extracted and installed onto your system.
      • During the installation you will notice a Blue Shield with blinky lights. This indicates that the most current version is being downloaded and installed.
    3. MAC: Download the file to your desktop.
      • Unzip the file.
      • Double click on Sophos AntiVirus.mpkg and follow the prompts.
      • Select your hard drive and click on Install.
      • Once on campus, contact the ITS Helpdesk (871-7501) to get your MAC on the Network.

License Agreement

Sophos Endpoint Protection is licensed software that may be installed on any University-owned computer. For University owned machines please call the ITS Help Desk at 814-871-7501.

It may also be installed on a home computer owned by a member of the Gannon community for the duration of your association with Gannon University.   Continued use of Sophos Endpoint Protection after the end of your employment, study, or affiliation with Gannon is prohibited. Distribution of this program to those not affiliated with the University is prohibited and is a violation of our license agreement.
