What You'll Be Doing

Gannon University believes in helping you choose between the many possible fields of psychology. Whether you are interested in clinical, cognitive, counseling, educational, engineering, evolutionary, experimental, forensic, health, industrial/organizational, neuropsychology, quantitative and measurement, rehabilitation, school, social, or sport psychology, Gannon’s psychology program can help you explore and decide which one is right for you.

As a psychology major, you will be introduced to all of these possibilities. In addition, you will be able to take more advanced courses relating to many of these fields. There are also opportunities for hands-on experience through internships and research with faculty members as you earn a degree that prepares you for success in many occupations. It’s up to you to discover how you will use psychology in your future.

College Connections

Students can get involved in service learning through the Gannon Psychology Club and the Center for Social Concerns.

The Gannon psychology program is affiliated with the Psi Chi National Psychology Honor Society, which recognizes outstanding psychology majors.

Psychology faculty members have 75 years of combined teaching experience.

In addition to graduates continuing at Gannon for an advanced degree, there are several institutions where they chose to pursue professional or graduate degrees including: Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Duquense University, Edinboro University, Hofstra University, James Madison University, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Penn State University, Texas A&M University, University of Buffalo, University of Pittsburgh, University of Dayton, University of Georgia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia University among others.

Major Facts

    • Numerous undergraduate internship opportunities are available in the Erie area at organizations such as the Sarah Reed Children’s Center, Child Development Council of Northwest Pennsylvania, The Gertrude Barber Center and the Great Lakes Rehabilitation Hospital.

    • Gannon undergraduate psychology students have an opportunity to design and conduct research projects. Many Gannon students have presented their research at regional psychology conferences.

    • Gannon faculty research interests include personality theory, creativity, counterfactual thinking, framing effects, humor, psychology of women, ethnicity, transpersonal psychology, cognitive aging, working memory, imagery processes, visual cognition and evolutionary psychology.

    Psychology students learn a multitude of skills:
