New Club At Gannon University Hosts Tasty Competition
Posted: November 12, 2013
Gannon University's Advertising and Promotions Club will hold
its first "Cupcake Wars" Tuesday, Nov. 12 in the third floor lounge
of the Palumbo Academic Center from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.
In the event, which is just for fun, eight teams composed of two
individuals will go head to head to see who has the best cupcakes.
The cupcakes will be prebaked and teams will be supplied with basic
items with which to decorate them. If a team wants extra
decorations, they can purchase those supplies from a competition
"pantry" to help make their cupcakes the best. Items in the pantry
will cost less than a dollar.
Each round will have a specific theme, and the rounds will be
timed and then judged by the panel of "E"xcellent Board Judges. The
grand prize for the tournament is a prize basket, filled with
chocolate and Starbucks goodies.
Alex Bohman, president of the club, said that after all the hard
work of getting the club up and running, this event is exciting for
everyone involved. The club wanted to hold an event that was fun
and different.
"We hope that people will start to recognize us as an
organization on campus they want to be involved with," Bohman said.
"We wanted to created a fun and competitive event that was unique
on campus."
This is the first semester that the club has been in existence.
It is focused on the advertising and promotion industries to
provide students with an opportunity to build their portfolios and
work experience while learning about the industries.
According to Bohman, students on Gannon's campus are encouraged to
participate because it is an excellent opportunity for anyone in
any major. To become involved, students attend the meetings and
work on various projects. The club meets every Tuesday in Beyer 211
at 11 a.m.
