ERIE, Pa. - Gannon University will be hosting a visiting scholar from China for the 2013-14 academic year. Zhong Hui, Ph.D., will conduct research and teaching labs in the electrical and computer engineering department of Gannon's College of Engineering and Business. Zhong's 12-month appointment will begin Aug. 4.

Zhong served as an assistant professor and lecturer at Shandong University in Jinan, China, since 1999. She earned her doctorate (2009), master's (1999) and bachelor's (1996) degrees in electrical engineering from Shandong.

Zhong taught courses in electric circuits and electromagnetic fields each term and she's published more than 10 papers. Her areas of expertise include electric machine design, dynamic modeling and control, and analysis and numerical simulation of electromagnetic field in electric machines.

"Gannon University values these collaborations," said Carolynn Masters, Ph.D., R.N., Gannon's provost and vice president for academic affairs. "Giving our students access to experts from around the world will enhance their experience and we're honored that Dr. Zhong identified Gannon as a place to continue her work."

This will be Gannon's first visiting scholar with full financial support from a foreign country since 2007. Zhong was awarded a scholarship to come to the United States under the State Scholarship Fund of China's Scholarship Council, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Education from the People's Republic of China.

Zhong will work closely with Gannon assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering Lin Zhao, Ph.D. They were colleagues in separate departments at Shandong University from 1996-2001 and Zhong discovered Gannon through Zhao.
