Participants in Regional Summer School of Excellence Honored
Posted: August 8, 2012Gannon University recently held an awards ceremony for its Regional Summer School of Excellence.
Nearly 40 high school students participated in the two-week program, which is free and open to students from Erie, Warren and Crawford counties. Gannon’s Regional Summer School of Excellence allows students to participate in two weeks of intensive laboratory and field site study in the life sciences.
Students were honored in several categories:
- Superior Performance in Scientific Paper Writing – three students were recognized for the highest achievement in all laboratory reports: Loriann Vernier of Linesville High School, Erin Sipple of General McLane High School and Shaun Evans of Cathedral Prep.
- Outstanding Performance in Scientific Paper Writing – three students were recognized for their ability to integrate biological, chemical and physical parameters into meaningful scientific conclusions: Sandra Rabat of Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy, Jessica Robertson of Fairview High School and Amber Geiger of Maplewood High School.
- Exceptional Performance in Scientific Paper Writing – three students were recognized for offering the most consistent analysis in drawing conclusions to scientific problems involving environmental pollution and health: Kaitlin Hulings of Fairview High School, Andrew Wilcox of Cathedral Prep and Kaitlyn Page of Maplewood High School.
- Honorable Mention – Anna Dzuricky of Mercyhurst Prep, Michael Yost of Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy, Kaitlyn Gallant of Cambridge Springs High School, Ronnie Yosten of Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy, Allison Ganger of Mercyhurst Prep, Logan Henry of Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy and Stephen Macfarlane of Northwestern High School.
