Gannon University Celebrates Homecoming and Family Weekend

Posted: October 4, 2018

More than 1,000 alumni of Gannon University and Villa Maria College, and their family and friends are expected to arrive on campus for Homecoming and Family Weekend, Oct. 4-7.

In addition to the old friends and classmates who will reunite during weekend festivities, this year's event combines the traditional activities of both Homecoming and Family Weekend to include family members of current students.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, attendees will enjoy the pre-game and Tailgate Celebration from 9 a.m. to noon. West Fourth Street between Peach and Myrtle streets, and Sassafras Street between Third and Fifth streets will be closed to traffic as Gannon alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends gather together to enjoy food and drink from local businesses and food trucks, and live entertainment from FREE DAPS, an impromptu rap and hip-hop group. Gannon students will perform for the tailgating crowd at 10 a.m., as a corn hold tournament is held throughout the event.

Activities for all ages will be offered throughout the Tailgate Celebration, including a KidZone, to engage attendees right up to the kickoff of the football game at noon at McConnell Family Stadium. The Golden Knights will take on Seton Hill University, while Women's Volleyball will also take on Seton Hill at 2 p.m. in the Hammermill Center.

The University's Distinguished Alumni will be honored at 6 p.m., rounding out the day's activities. This year's honorees include: Dr. Ryan Carlisle '08, '10DPT; Timothy Craig '99; Edward Curley '86; Dr. Seeniann John '97; and Rev. Nicholas Rouch '83.
