Gannon University’s Small Business Development Center To Host 11th Annual WILD Conference
Posted: April 18, 2018
Every year the Women in Leadership Development (WILD) Conference hosted by Gannon University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) celebrates the empowerment of professional and enterprising women. This year, the keynote speaker of the national conference will do just that.
Gannon’s SBDC will welcome Darieth Chisolm, an Emmy Award-winning TV host, former NBC News anchor, coach, speaker, author, visibility and media strategist, as the keynote speaker for the 11th annual WILD Conference on Wednesday, April 18 at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center. A luncheon will follow Chisolm’s 11 a.m. keynote address and regional professionals will discuss workplace harassment issues at a panel discussion at 1 p.m.
Chisholm, who was a television news anchor at WPXI in Pittsburgh for 25 years, is the founder of 50 Shades of Silence, a movement to give voice and dignity to victims of cyber harassment and online crimes. Chisolm was herself the victim of cyber harassment. A documentary in production, also called “50 Shades of Silence,” recounts her harrowing experience and ultimate empowerment.
Dr. Janet Rose, an author, motivational speaker, leadership mentor and founder of ParentingGirls.com and the DRJR Leadership Retreat, will be honored with the Legacy Award given annually to an experienced, professional woman leader who mentors other women, supports her community and excels in her career.
“Throughout the past decade, the WILD conference has grown from a small idea to a celebration that regularly draws more than 300 women together for an opportunity to network and learn. It became a social gathering as much as an educational one,” said SBDC Director Maggie Horne.
In response to feedback from attendees, the structure and schedule of the conference will take on a new format to expand its series of offerings from an intensive, one-day event to four events to enhance its delivery of supporting and promoting educational and professional development opportunities for women in business.
The WILD Conference will be followed by forums concentrating on sales and marketing (May 16), personal and business finance (September 18) and doing business internationally (November 16).
