Gannon University’s campus chapter of Lambda Sigma, a national honor society for college and university sophomores, has been recognized.
Alpha Sigma, Gannon’s campus chapter, has been designated by the national executive board of Lambda Sigma as an “Honor Chapter.” Alpha Sigma had to meet several requirements in order to be considered for Honor Chapter status, which is the highest recognition given by Lambda Sigma:
- A student representative attending the organization’s national Convention.
- Submitting content for Lambda Sigma’s magazine, The Diamond.
- Strong and consistent attendance at meetings.
- A community service project. The members of Alpha Sigma donated essential items and school supplies to McKinley Elementary School, located in the Erie School District, and visited with children at McKinley.
For 2010-11, Alpha Sigma’s executive board consisted of students Nathalie Thorpe, president; Brittany Mong, vice president; Danielle Betz, treasurer; Sarah Lewis, secretary and Elizabeth Hinkley, service chair.
Sher-Ron Jones, assistant director, Gannon University Office of Student Living, and Nancy Kujawinski, secretary for the University’s Office of Student Organizations and Leadership Development, served as advisers to Alpha Sigma.
